HOW I BUILT UP MY BASS CHANNEL

G’day You Dead-Set Bloody Legends,

If you caught my latest YouTube video, you’ll know I’ve been looking back on how I built my bass channel, and it’s been a journey.

When I started out, I was juggling construction work by day and teaching bass at night. I spent years sharing how I break down tone, technique, and theory in a way for people to actually understand it. Some bass teachers are just good at navigating the human mind and delivering the information in a way that’s easily digestible. Those skills I’ve developed from my studies and within myself flow into my videos, courses, and lessons, and it’s bloody amazing sharing them with bass geeks all over the world.

The channel really began to grow because of my dedication to consistency, and with thanks to support from the wider bass community.

Bass Musician Magazine, Bass The World, DR Strings, Warwick Basses, and RockBoard by Warwick all gave me a push through shares, collabs, and demos.

One of the highlights was sitting down with HP from Warwick to talk about where the channel was heading – that was a huge motivator to keep moving forward.

I’ve taught myself how to shoot, edit, and finalise my own videos. I record my own bass, film myself, and produce the Bass’yn Podcast. My latest video was filmed on the Sony FX30 with audio captured on the RØDE NTG5 here in my home studio in The Basin, Australia. It’s been one of the most rewarding parts of this whole project.

Where’s it all heading? The YouTube channel is only part of the picture. I’m running online courses, masterclasses, tone consulting, and bass tuition – both in Melbourne and worldwide. It’s all about helping bass players develop their own sound, wherever they’re starting from.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned on this journey, it’s the importance of consistency.

Thanks to everyone who’s been part of the ride so far – and if you’re new, welcome aboard. Check out the video, subscribe, or get in touch if you’d like to work together on your playing and your overall musicianship.

I really hope you enjoy it.

Onwards and upwards.
