WHERE ARE YOU NOW - BRANCH ARTERIAL

Branch live.jpg

So stoked to get the opportunity to do this track.

I played in Branch Arterial for 6 years. I can clearly remember our very first show together, and our very last.

The pic above was taken @ The Corner Hotel in Richmond in Jan 2018.

This is the last track taken off the 2017 album release - Beyond The Border.

I think this is the most musical song from the album.

I like the rhythm changes, vocal melodies, semi aggressive pedalling style, and the heavier slap section in the bridge.

I had actually never played this song with the band at the time of the recording, so what you’re hearing on the album and what you’re hearing in the play through are slightly different.

I improvised on the spot for the album, it came out well, but I wanted to re-write some parts for the play through, plus record it to suit my personal taste, which differ slightly from the album.

Darkglass Electronics commented on the tone of this play-though, they also shared it on Instagram and Facebook. We pulled this tone using my Warwick NT 2010 Thumb Bass, strung with Ernie Ball slinkies gauge 45/130. It’s tuned in standard aside from the low B, which is a low A. We recorded straight into my Avalon U5 DI, a Darkglass B7K, a Sansamp Tech21 BDDI, then re-amped later on through a Darkglass Alpha Omega pedal, this then had some post compression and eq’ processing to make it sound played. Ie: non digital, or as non-digital as we could possibly get it to sound. That is my style, I like hearing things as musical and “real” as possible.

I really like the tone … its original, dirty, but still clear, and you can hear the plucked notes clearly.

My natural passion for playing comes through in the video which was filmed in my old studio in Melbourne.

Matt Bartlem has mixed the audio really well - Im stoked with everything about this video from the tone, to the visual production.

I really hope you enjoy it.
