USING MY WARWICK THUMB BASS IN MY ORIGINAL BAND

A long time between drinks, but as per usual I’m stoked to be releasing this video!

Sorting through 6 months of files took me what felt like forever. I need to be super organised with this project. Lesson learned.

I played in Branch Arterial from late 2012 up until early 2018.

Our last show was @ The Corner Hotel in Melbourne, January 2018. The band were a five-piece original progressive rock group from Melbourne.

I released a play-through video of Where Are You Now in May 2019.

Initially, I was blending in some live footage from our album launch but adding to an already 7-minute-long video seemed too much.

Sorting through the endless files I have on the band was the hardest part. Also making a video relevant to the two topics whilst staying interesting proved quite a task. This video briefly covers the band, the album, and how I’ve recorded the play-through using my beautiful 2010 NT Warwick Thumb Bass.

I chose this song as it incorporates slap bass playing and finger style. There are good exercises in the song for anyone wanting to work on both.

I’m extremely proud of the final bass tone. There is quite an art in using Darkglass pedals with this particular bass. It can be tricky to get the blend right where the clarity of the bass stays and doesn’t get drowned out in distortion.

Although the band has parted ways, we had an absolute ball playing live. This video is my tribute to the album in its entirety. Against all odds we finished it. I still receive messages of appreciation on the musicality of Beyond The Border.

There’s been nothing but legendary support so far of which I’m very thankful.

I think the album deserves the time it took me to create this video.
