JOINING MAMMAL - MY BAND

Sometimes life takes unexpected turns!

April of 2020 I was out for a daily walk with the dogs when I received an email from Pete Williamson (guitar) with a proposition to join Mammal. Initially I turned the offer down. Not because I don’t love the work, but because I was on a much needed break from the industry.

I really wasn’t looking for another band.

It wasn’t long after this conversation that I received a msg from Zeke (vocals), explaining that we should chat. We had an hour long conversation in which he presented some interesting points for me.

Mammal are an established band and have a recognised name in the Australian rock scene. Zeke also wasn’t sure how much input I’d need to commit to the band at that stage. After talking with some industry friends of mine, I’d decided to meet Zane (drums) and have a jam.

You can control some things, you can’t pre-determine entirely how your interactions will be or how jamming will feel upon meeting someone.

The guys are professional and are willing to work hard. The speed I’ve seen some things happen is much quicker than i’m used to and I’ve taken these opportunities within myself to do the work.

I then met engineer/producer Jimi Maroudas, who produced an early 2007 self-titled EP. This interaction was something quite profound for me.

Jimi is the “real deal” and an amazing person. I’ve been lucky to have had the opportunity to work and learn alongside him on the latest two releases - Crime Scene and The War.

Mammal are signed with New World Artists as their booking agent. They work behind the scenes with support, booking shows, and promoting the band. I’m appreciative to be part of their artist roster.

You can view my introduction announcement on the Mammal website here.

The members and team have stuck this out, and I feel lucky to have been asked to join. The opportunity to progress my bass playing musically and psychically presented itself from day one.

In our short time together we’ve jammed, had photo shoots, interviews, organised live shows, and released music.

Here is my bass playthough of Crime Scene.

Onwards and upwards.
