MY COVER OF THE GRUDGE - TOOL

Stoked To Have Finalised My Very First Tool Cover!

This has been in the works for the past few years.

I first saw Tool when they toured ‘Lateralus’ here in Melbourne as a teenager. It blew my mind when they opened with ‘The Grudge’.

The hardest challenge in covering anything from Justin Chancellor was creating bass tones and parts over what he’s already done. This was never intended to be played verbatim. For the serious Tool fans - I honestly can’t use a pic very well haha!

I’ve used my 2003 Warwick Thumb bass. Dr Strings, Mesa Boogie amp and cab, a plethora of Di’s, mics, and pedals. Rather than deep dive into tones now, I will explain this in further detail through a “How I got That Sound” tone video in the coming months.

I have recieved a monster response on this video so far with multiple social media shares, including a YouTube share from Bass The World.

I’m proud of what I’ve created. The recording and mixing with Dylan Mitrovich is always a pleasurable journey. I’m stoked with the final result. This was definitely one of the more challenging projects i’ve worked on, and i’m proud of the direction my branding and website are heading towards.

It’s recorded in 48k through my Apollo 8 interface. I have put my all into the writing, playing and tones. I wanted to release the best Tool cover possibly could.

I hope you enjoy it and can take something from this.
