Pretty Happy Smashing This One Out
G’day Legends! I’m stoked to be delivering this video.
Mudvayne, Ryan Martinie, LD 50. Mind blowing.
I worked in Canada in 2004. I was living over there for a year, and each day, to and from work, I had LD 50 pumping on my Discman through my headphones just walking around Vancouver and Banff, listening to something amazing. Since then, I haven’t let go of working up to Ryan’s skill level.
Death Blooms was quite a journey for me as a whole.
Working out the parts, the tuning, alogside the correct bass set-up took months. I’m using DR Hi-Beams and opted for B F# B E A tuning, with gauges 40/100 for the higher side and a 125 for the low B. Worked a treat. The Warwick Thumb, DR strings, Gallien-Krueger amp and cabs sounded amazing. Aside from some automation and EQ, the mix didn’t require a whole lot of work to make it sound right. I’d pre-purchased the WAV files of LD 50 and duplicated the drums. They’re completely untouched. My bass is then blended in over the top. I wrote some slap parts over the top, changed the intro, and created a whole outro from my interpretation.
We recorded this in three takes. The shed was 45 degrees Celsius. I couldn’t have moved any harder or given more of my soul that day.
You can view the video here.
I really hope you enjoy it.
Onwards and upwards,
Kade
