TOOL - SCHISM - BASS COVER
📸 - Melbourne, December 29, 2025
G’day Legends! I’m stoked to be re-delivering this video.
What an honour to be covering this track. The parts took months to learn and choose which sections would be verbatim or original. This is done by listening and playing along with the track over and over until it makes sense musically and feels right. A series of events that helped shape kadeturner.com.
I use theory and rhythmic understanding, along with my own personal creativity to create these covers.
The bridge in Schism was amazing to work on. I built my Rockboard specifically just for it by using a Peterson Strobe tuner, Canadian made Digitech Whammy, a Darkglass B7K, and an MXR Carbon Copy delay. I experimented multiple times through this setup until the sound was right for my ears. The cab sim from the Darkglass helped with the low end in the bridge. Running through the GK Legacy 800 bass head worked a treat.
Playing live, I believe Justin uses a series of hammer-ons and volume swells, however I’ve have no idea how it was recorded on the studio version. For me, literally what you see in the video is what you are hearing.
This was video number 5 from this particular shoot. I am stoked on the end result. It is such a powerhouse track, and Tool as a band have done an incredible job.
The original audio mix is world class and I enjoyed mixing my bass in over the top. I spent hours with EQ, compression and automation blending to where I am sitting on top without losing the track’s intensity. I have also run a duplicate of Danny’s drums and blended them in.
You can view the video here.
I really hope you enjoy it.
Onwards and upwards,
Kade
